Administration in your own hands
Libre Workspace is free. You can start the installation immediately if you have basic knowledge of server administration. Even though everything is very easy to understand, it can sometimes be helpful to lend a hand yourself due to your own individual circumstances. Should you encounter challenges or have any questions, our support is available to you at any time!
Hardware Requirements
The hardware requirements needed by Libre Workspace can fluctuate significantly, depending on what you use Libre Workspace for, which modules/addons you install, and what kind of user behavior you expect. Nevertheless, we would like to share a few common examples for rough orientation:
- The smallest instances (only with Nextcloud, Online Office, and the portal) can run well on as little as 2 GB RAM and one CPU core and 10 GB disk space (excluding data), but we do not recommend many simultaneous users here.
- For the classic home server, we recommend 6 GB RAM and 2 CPU cores. This allows you to invite a few family members to the cloud and operate a handful of addons/modules. If you need some breathing room, we recommend at least 10 GB RAM and 4 CPU cores, so that, for example, resource-hungry applications like PaperlessNGX can run at an acceptable speed.
- If you want to use Libre Workspace for your company, experience shows that we recommend 2GB RAM and a “half” CPU core per employee, as well as 10GB disk space (excluding data).
How to start with Libre Workspace yourself
Set up a server
Either book a server from a hosting provider or use your own hardware. For testing purposes, you can also use a virtual machine (don’t forget the network bridge).
Obtain an internet domain (recommended)
To use all features as easily as possible, we recommend using a dedicated internet domain for Libre Workspace. Alternatively, you can operate Libre Workspace exclusively locally and skip this step. Unfortunately, our chat module does not support subsequent changes (if you wish to use it).
Create installation media
If you use your own hardware, you may need to write the .iso installation file to a USB flash drive. You can do this using Etcher. Otherwise, you can simply mount the .iso file and start!
Start installation
The installation starts automatically. You only need to determine the partitioning and the installation of the bootloader. The default settings are completely sufficient.
Setup in the web browser
Define everything else, as well as the app selection, either on the server or in the web browser by calling up the server’s IP address.
Finished!
After approx. 10 to 20 minutes, Libre Workspace is fully configured and ready for use. Have fun using it!
